Ingredients

For the Crust:

2 1/2 cups flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup shortening
2 eggs (separated)
1/2 cup milk
For the Filling:

2 cups corn flakes cereal
10 apples (peeled and sliced)
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
For the Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar
3 tsp water
Steps to Make Apple Pie Bars:

Get your oven preheating to 350°F.
In a spacious bowl, sift together flour, sugar, and salt. Introduce the shortening and integrate using a pastry blender until you achieve a crumbly texture.
In a measuring cup, combine egg yolks with milk until the 2/3 cup mark is reached. Mix this liquid into the dry mix until a dough forms.
Divide the dough into two even halves. Roll out each portion into a rectangle that can comfortably fit a 10x15-inch cookie sheet.
Place one of the dough rectangles on the cookie sheet. Layer it with corn flakes.
In a separate bowl, mix your sliced apples with sugar and cinnamon until the apples are well-coated. Arrange this apple mixture atop the corn flakes.
Cover with the second dough rectangle, sealing the edges nicely.
Whip up the egg whites in a small bowl until they turn frothy. Brush this over the upper crust.
Pop into the oven for an hour.
As the bars bake, whisk together your glaze ingredients in another bowl. Once you take the bars out, drizzle this glaze over the warm surface.
Let them cool down a bit before slicing and serving.
Enjoy the harmony of flavors and textures in these fantastic apple pie bars!
